Social medias has always been a great place for artists to take part in community and various art challenges. I've started on DeviantArt, then Tumblr and joined the more mainstream social medias Twitter and Instagram a bit later, which all allowed me to see so many memes and challenges. Though they've been great ooportunities, they've also become quite a burden. Social medias has this ability to pressure you into doing stuff.
I do realise now, as I'm writing these words (august 25), that corporate social medias (ie. Twitter, Instagram) were really hard for me. I was anxious, the fear of missing out was high and I was putting too much pressure on myself to participate in all these challenges. I've quitted Twitter and Instagram a few years ago and traded them for Mastodon. I've deleted my DeviantArt account following their allowance of AI. I still have my Tumblr even though I hate that they've bowed down to big corporations to eliminate anything lewd from the website (and we still have pornbots flooding everything, so they took out the best stuff and left us with the most annoying and frustrating bit lol).
I really don't regret it.
Oh no, I do have one regret : I've lost so many artists I was following on Twitter. They either stayed there or traded for BlueSky (which will follow the same path as Twitter, mark my words) so I lost their art and I'm really sad about it. But the rest of it ? I'm fine on Mastodon.
On this page you'll find the art memes and challenges I took part in over the years. A nice way to see my progression through the years !
No better way to see an artist's progression than Summary of Art, right ? Each year (I still do this one by the way !) we choose one piece of art per month to display as a way of seeing what we've made through 12 months. Sometimes it's really hard to pick a piece. Sometimes you realised you haven't drawn for a month or more. Sometimes you realise all your best work come from the same month. Honestly the best part of it is looking back to your own folders of art for this year and realise everything you've done.

I initially didn't want to take part in this art meme. Because I had to show my face and I never showed my face online. I'm a pseudonym/hide your identity online generation kid. So stepping through this rule of mine was quite hard. Plus I didn't like myself and didn't take picture of myself before so anyway, it wouldn't have worked. I started this meme in 2018. I didn't do it in 2023-2025 because I didn't have as much time to draw (coming back to university) and doing a Summary of Art was already tricky. Oh and also I've participated twice in 2019.

Draw a mermaid in May ! I wanted to take part of this so many times and didn't in the end, but here are the participations of the few times I did. I tried doing the "1 drawing per day" once and it didn't work out so other years I just did 1 drawing for the challenge.
