Queer Original Characters Project

1, Zara Sora + polyamourous

This project started with Zara Sora Roronoa, my main One Piece OC. At that time I didn't gave her the bisexual pride flag for... reasons ? I don't know, I think it was already pretty obvious she was bi but the polyamourous part was more obvious so I focused on it. I actually made a bi + polyamourous digital version years later in 2023, as a mean to also see my improvement though the years.


As you can see, I was really bad with colours in 2018 and I didn't have many alcohol markers so she ended up with a very fair-pink skin when she should be tanned. Pose was pretty stiff, hands are... present at least ? But not the feet. The 2023 piece is way better, even though it's a flat colour / sketchy piece without a proper lineart. I used a photo for the pose, which helped a lot with the hands and feet specially. I'm pretty happy with it, even though I could have made an effort with the pride flags, lol. Used a new version of the polyamourous pride flag that I liked, and as I said before, added the bi flag.

2, Zoey Roronoa + bi

Zoey is Zara's first daughter, and Zéphyr is her twin brother. She's bi and she's one of the few OCs I've know their orientation since the very beginning. There was no doubt about it. She's the captain of the Midnight Pirates, a crew she created with the other Mugiwara's kids to defy their parents authority. She's a queen and she knows it, but has a complex about her shortness, so she's always wearing high heels shoes. And she's a demon. Every Roronoa kid is a demon. And Zoey is the Demon Queen.


Same issue as Zara : skin colour is inexact and the brush pen I was using at the time was leaving so many traces, I'm really disappointed because overall, I still love this artwork. It has its issues, but nothing phenomenal compared to my art style and level at the time. Feet are too small, hands are horrible and she should be shorter, with even wider legs, but the rest is okay. The hair is gorgeous, I really like it.

3, Sacha J. Ketchum + ace

Sacha Julie is my Pokemon OC and one of my oldest OCs. I didn't know I was asexual at the time, and I certainly didn't know the word either. But for some reason, Sacha has always been asexual. With my other OCs, I projected a "perfect" image of myself, one that was essentially accepted by society, and therefore in the norms : cis, hetero, valid, with a feminist touch but nothing really exciting (let's put it back into context : most of these OCs were created somewhere between my 8 and 15 years old). Sacha J. is the first OC where I introduced something that was actually me. Oh well, let's be honest : she wasn't exactly like what she is now when I created her, at ~9/10 years old. But I think she was already asexual in the way I portrayed her relationship with Aurélien. They were more like best friends who cuddle and kiss sometimes than a "normal" couple. When I discovered I was asexual, at 19, I realised later that Sacha was also ace and it brought me to tears. Yup. I made myself my own representation without even knowing it. It was quite powerful for a queer newbie.


It's one of my faves from this project. I still love it a lot after all these years. Probably because it's Sacha J. and she means a lot to me. But I like the way I drew her hair. The fact that I managed to give her this pose even though it was quite a challenge for me (the crossed arms and feet), her facial expression... I like it. Of course it could be better, but for my level at this moment, it was great. Oh and : still skin colour issue, she should have a more light olive skin. I still had very few alcohol markers colours at the time + I just really didn't know how to draw skin, let's be honest.

4, Nikki + lesbian

Nikki is Sanji & Nami's daughter (no I don't even like this ship, I just made it for the purpose of having Mugiwara kids to make a next generation fanfic. It really makes no sense. And I picture Nami as a lesbian lol) and Zoey's girlfriend. She's the Midnight's cook and has inherited her father's love for women (cough cough or should it be Nami ?) therefore she's lesbian ! She also was one of the few OCs I knew back from the start their orientation. She uses the rainbow flag.


I tried stuff there ! I did something more complex with objects and I remember being very proud of the result. It's a pity I don't really like the face, 'cause the rest is pretty good (except the hands, of course). I've been hesitating on her style for years and still haven't really figured it out. This one looks nice, I think.

5, Zao Roronoa + pan

Zao is the third kid of Zara and Zoro Roronoa, born after Zoey and Zéphyr. She's the quieter from the family and probably the one to cause least trouble. Quite like Nami, she knows how to fool men with her looks and body to get what she wants. But she's more of a shadow than a star. Like the rest of the Roronoa kids, she uses a sword. She wields a single katana. Another Roronoa family trait seems to be being not straight at all, with only one hetero kid (and I'm still wondering if she's really cishet lol). Zao is pan. Oh, did I mention every Roronoa kid has a name starting with Z ? Now you know.


It's one of my faves ! The flow, the pose, the hair... I really like what I did ! I just wish I didn't fail her face (like the others before, but maybe that's my leveling up talking here, I don't think I was disappointed by her face when I drew it), because otherwise I love it. Still skin colour issue, she's a Roronoa, she's not supposed to be that white.

6, Gibus Gaara Roronoa + genderfluid & pan

Gibus is Zara and Haiko's first born. And they're a total disaster. Completly drawn insane by their father and with too much powers, they became the number one source of evil in the world. Their powers allow them to change their body and therefore adjust to their gender fluidity at will. Pronouns are changing during the story, for easiness I'll keep it to they/them here but they uses them all.


Aaand here's my worst artwork ever in this project. I don't think I can surpass the worseness. I HATE it. I don't even have anything special to say about it, I just hate it and I'm not satisfied at all with it. I should redraw it. It's worth a redraw. For Zara I did a redraw because she was lacking one of her pride flags and also to see how much I had improved, but for Gibus ? Damn, I just need to get rid of this version, lol (no I won't ever get rid of an artwork).

7, Kyo Etsu Brunette Rockine + bi

Kyo is another Pokemon OC, from Sinnoh, and she's the shy and introverted emo girl. I need to rework her design to reflect that better. She has a connection with ghost pokemons. She travels Sinnoh with Izumi, even though she really didn't want at first. Honestly there's a lot I need to rework about her.


Second worst artwork. I failed the face too much and I had several issues with the hair (you can spot the stains of colours around some edges because I reworked the colour too much). She should have dark brown hair, like, chocolate hair. Also I didn't managed enough her triangle silhouette, she's supposed to have wide shoulders and narrower hips.

8, Izumi Himeka + lipstick lesbian

Izumi is a shiny ray of sunshine from Sinnoh and wants to become a pokemon breeder. Of cute pokemons only. But she's too excited and all over the place to travel alone, plus she's a big extroverted and need someone else, so she tags along Kyo's journey happily. She's lesbian and quite a princess, therefore I chose her the lipstick lesbian version with the pink stripes instead of the orange and pink one. (I learnt afterwards that the creator of this pride flag was transphobic. And we say no to transphobia here. It was in terms of aesthetics and mood, it fits her better).


For some reasons I gave her this outfit, which was far from the style Izumi had at first. I like the artwork though, it's pretty cool and there's not too many errors, I even managed to add details I didn't do for others. And there are hands !! Quite good looking hands for my level at the time. I like this one.

9, Carly Gaara Roronoa + non-binary & pan

Oh Carly Carly Carly... They're Gibus and Holly's child. And an evil disaster with a power-seeking disaster could only make another disaster, right ? Carly is as insane as their dad but doesn't have their power. They fights with big shuriken blades. They're non-binary (they/them) and pan. It's not an OC I've developped a lot, but I've always loved them. They're a combination of many things I like.


One of my faves. I did their hair exactly as I want it to be and they have a nice expression, even though the face itself could be better. Actually the body isn't that great but their facial expression and pose with the colours look so good to me. They have one of my old favourite color combo : chocolate and green. My absolute colour combination when I was a teen was chocolate and blue but I've always loved green and chocolate as well. Looks good.

10, Sasha + greyace & pan

Sasha is my Hero Corp OC ! She's not a superhero but a mutant with cat attributes : eyes, teeth and claws. She has lived in the village since she was teen, after she was chased for being a mutant and killed one of her bullies in Montréal. She's close friend with Klaus.


This one was special ! I wanted to try and replicate a bit Claire Roe's style from the Birds of Prey Rebirth comics. I really love her style and how she portrays women and she's been an inspiration since then. Therefore this one is quite afar from my usual style. It didn't end up so well and aged badly, but I learnt a lot and had fun drawing this. It was a hard illustration, between Sasha's cat attributes, the attempted new style, the pose, the hair... There's many things to correct, but I did it. I don't love this one, but I'm proud of it.

11, Karina + bi

Karina is from my One Piece schoolfic. There's Zara in there, but not the others from my main One Piece fanfiction. Karina is just one of the many students I invented to fill up Zara's class. She's quite a stereotype, lol. The confident slut who doesn't give a fuck about what you think of her. Everyone had one in their school, right ? She hasn't got a very cool role in my schoolfic, though... But I like her enough to create a design for her and draw her, which is clearly not the case for the other classmates I created !


I like this one. I don't like the face, but the pose is cool and I tried to fit in a cigarette, for once.

12, Gray Andersson + bi

Gray is from my oldest original story. He's the son of Sacha Andersson (nope, not the one(s) from this page !) and Julien Courtois, twin brother of Cannelle and older brother of Maïlys. As a teen he struggled with his bisexuality and was bullied for it. He's the softest and shyest from the family, his sisters protecting him most of the time.


I like this one. It was quite a challenge as well but at the time I was more at ease with my tools and I think it shows. I'm growing more precise with my alcohol markers and the line is better and more detailed as well. I was trying to convey Gray's struggle but I think the pose need a little change to convey the right idea. I really like how the trousers look. Also, I was -and still am- proud of the damn shoes !!!

13, Luméphile Zikkup + trans

Luméphile is from another original story, a fantastic one, this time, with magical creatures : vampires, demons, angels, werewolves, witches... Luméphile is a special case, as he's a werecat and vampire hybrid. He was a twin sister called Dunally. I tried many many many times to write this book but never finished it. Maybe someday ?


I'm not really happy with this one now. I like the face and hair, but the pose doesn't work that much and I think I can style him better than that. But I remember having fun drawing him.

14, Maïlys Andersson + queer

Maïlys is Cannelle and Gray's little sister. She defines herself as queer, both in orientation and gender. She's loud and proud and even though she's small, nobody in their right mind would taunt her into a fight. She has seen her older siblings get bullied and attacked and is taking no one's bullshit since then. She's tough but also gentle and helpful. She will fight to protect those who need protection.


And here's the third artwork I hate the most. I just failed the proportions so hard. It's a shame 'cause her face and hair were cool !

15, Jessica Lepin + lesbian

Jessica is Cannelle's girlfriend. Together they formed a band during highschool, named "Épicé'All". Camille joined them as bassist rapidly. Later they encountered Cheryl, an american student, who joined them as guitarist. Jessica is the drummer.


It's both good and bad ? I mean, the colours do rock. I used the lesbian palette with autumnal colours and I love it. The pose is cool but I failed it a bit. What happened with the skin, I don't know, but it looks a bit smudgy. The face isn't great either. The hair is hella cool but could be even better. I still like it but there are issues that bug me.

16, Cannelle Andersson + pan

Cannelle is Gray's twin and Maïlys big sister. She's a dreamer and writes her own songs. During highschool, she met Jessica and they formed together the band "Épicé'All". After a while, they started dating.


This one is so cool ! But a bit like Jessica, there are issues that are too big now and rub me the wrong way. The hair colours is exactly like I wanted but it looks weird on her head, too high on the front... Her face could be improved as well. And the feeeeet !!! I had made improvements with previous artworks, but I failed hard this one on the feet, lol... Sad !

17, Zéphyr Roronoa + bi

Finally Zéphyr's turn ! I was meaning to draw him furing the firsts artworks, but at the time I was really bad at drawing dudes and Zéphyr was supposed to look a bit like Zoro and I drew him like shit so I postponed him a lot. 2020, I finally decided to draw him. He's Zara and Zoro first born, twin of Zoey and his second mate in the Midnight Pirates crew. Like all Roronoas, he fights with swords. While Zoey has two katanas, he only wields one. I 100% created the design of the katana while drawing this.


Well, if I didn't fail the head/hair, it would have been really great ! I managed to give him some muscles and the pose is really nice and the trousers are damn cool and looking like Zoro's, so I'm quite proud of it overall.

18, Zeko Roronoa + non-binary & pan

Zeko is the fourth Roronoa sibling, with her twin sister Zaiko (who is actually from Haiko, not Zoro). She's fun and lively, playing a lot, contrasting with her twin sister's reserved and anxious nature. She fights with one sword.


Oh this one was a hard fail lol. I took the wrong marker for the lighter skin on her hands and tried to correct it but only made it worse... Also managed to cut her feet, I don't remember how I sketched her, this shouldn't have happened lol. It's a shame because the face is really good for once and I like her hair.

19, Sacha Andersson + bi

This one is my Code Lyoko OC, and therefore one of my most recent characters ! It was my fave show when I was a kid, and in 2020-2021 rewatched it and made my OC and her story. This version is a grown-up one, but of course she's a middleschooler like Ulrich and the others. In Lyoko, she's a support sniper, freezing enemies from afar. In real life, she's proud and loud and quite a punk. She always wears fishnets and a choker. She dances, but like modern choreographies we can find a lot for k-pop songs.


This one was good !! The only downside is the blue eyeline, which should have been thinner, but I made it with alcohol marker and it smudged a bit... I'm really happy with the resultat and when can see I'm trying to add texture with coloured pencils.

20, Daelys Aurora + lesbian & ace

Daelys is a One Piece OC, one from the very last generation I created (the 5th !). She has the Phoenix Devil Fruit (Marco is loooong gone, eh) and is the cook of the Brown Sword crew. She's quite shy.


Welp, this one went pretty well as well !! The only downside is the face, I don't like this thicker line on her upper lip and there's a tiny line on the nose I don't like as well, but overall it's looking good. I like how my characters take up more space on the page as we go through the years. The pose are more complex and expressive, there's more texture and details and the proportions are better.

21, Bluena Rozerane + lesbian

Last one before my hiatus is Bluena Rozerane, aka Zaena Roronoa, the last Roronoa kid !! Also a 5th Gen pirate like Daelys, she's also part of the Brown Sword crew as navigator. She ate the White Tiger devil fruit. And she doesn't know her "real" name until she's adult, as she was adopted by another family as a baby.


Of course if I had to answer "which is my best artwork from this project", it's this one. I love it. There's an issue with her left leg which should be more in the background, it's doesn't make sense like this, but apart from this, the line is precise, the colours are finally good, the pose is cool, and honestly, I just love the wavy pride flag ! I might keep this for the next artworks, it looks cool.
